Kia ora everyone,
We’ve had to send back quite a few activities recently, so here’s a quick explanation and how to sort this.
All Duke of Ed activity goals must be written as SMART goals. If your goal isn’t SMART yet, we can’t approve the activity.
What to do now (please do this today):
Update your goal using one of the options below.
Option 1: SMART paragraph (all five parts required)
Write one short paragraph in the Aim / Goal box that clearly includes:
- what exactly you will do
- how often or how much you will do it
- what success will look like
- why this goal is realistic for you
- the time frame
If your paragraph doesn’t cover all five, it isn’t SMART yet.
Copy this structure (you can paste and adapt this):
Over the next [time period], I will [do what] for [how often/how long]. I will know I’ve been successful because I can [measurable outcome]. This goal is realistic for me because [why it’s achievable].
Option 2: SMART acrostic
Write S M A R T down the page and complete each line:
- S – what exactly are you doing?
- M – how will you measure success?
- A – is it achievable for you?
- R – is it realistic and motivating?
- T – by when or how often?
Example
Weak goal: Playing the piano
SMART goal:
Practise piano for 30 minutes at least four times a week and be able to confidently perform two pieces at a school or community event by the end of this section.
Your weekly logs should then show your own effort and progress towards this goal.
If you do not currently have SMART goals, please edit them in your ORB now to avoid your completed Award being returned by National for changes.
Please talk with your Award Leader or email them if you have questions. If you’re stuck — you just need to ask.
