Kia ora,
Here's a rare one: Auckland Challenge has been offered spots on a Spirit of New Zealand Discovery Voyage in November — a 5-day sail training adventure that's usually reserved for school groups. We're putting together a crew of 5 males and 5 females, and we need to know if you're keen by Sunday morning.
What is the Discovery Voyage?
Five days aboard the Spirit of New Zealand, sailing Auckland's Hauraki Gulf. No experience needed — you'll take the helm, work as a crew, tackle problem-solving challenges, swim, hike, and build real leadership skills along the way. It's an unforgettable experience, and it counts toward the Adventurous Journey section of your Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award.
Who can apply?
You need to be 14-16 years old at the time of the voyage, and currently enrolled in the Award.
What does it cost?
Up to $1,500. We know that's a big ask for some families, so funding support is available — though the full cost won't be covered, so some contribution will still be needed.
A quick note on health and dietary requirements
The voyage is physically demanding and the ship can be away from immediate medical support (though the crew are trained in marine first aid). If you have any health conditions, or need dietary support beyond vegetarian, gluten free or dairy free, just flag it with us when you apply and we'll talk it through together.
Spots like this don't come around often — if you're interested, let us know by Sunday morning so we can lock in our crew. |
